Creating a Strategy for Social Media

"If you don't know where you want to go, any road will take you there". Social media has provided a platform to build communities, generate awareness and promote evangelists. But many businesses start without a strategy. The end result? Wasted time. In this session we'll get smart about social media.
Social media offers an excellent tool for business owners and marketers to expand their communities and their brand recognition – but just because it’s free doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a strategy behind it. The key to success is a clearly thought-out plan. This session will give you the tools you need to craft an effective strategy and achieve measurable results for your company.
What Participants Will Learn:
• Why social media has become so relevant (consumer trends, industry trends, marketing trends)
• How businesses, small and large, have leveraged social media for success
• How to develop a social media strategy to get your business started on path to success

Letter From the President:

Welcome to what is shaping up to be another incredible year for the ISES Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter. You may or may not have heard, but a few weeks ago, several of our Chapters members were on hand at ISES Eventworld in Baltimore where, at this year’s annual general meeting, we received the Spirit of Excellence Award for programs and education and for the third time in five years, ISES Minneapolis-St. Paul was named ISES Chapter of the year. It is an incredible accomplishment! And an accomplishment only possible thanks to our members and our volunteers who time and time again make the work of our chapter great! At least for myself, after an increasingly busy summer, it will be great to get back to business and our fall ISES program schedule begins. I am very excited that we will be kicking off the programming year with a good friend of mine, and former president of ISES Toronto, Lara McCulloch who will speak to the strategy of making Social Media work for you. In October, we partner with NACE to whom we must raise a toast for their accomplishment of receiving the national NACE award for best Education and Programming as well at their national conference in Austin Texas in July for a vineyard tour. In November, we will return to our design series with a presentation by Ken Kristoffersen of Vancouver. And in December we will again take time to relax with a Jingle Mingle already in the works! But education is not just something that happens at monthly programs. This year, at our annual board retreat, your board of directors set a goal of expanding the educational experience for our members as we continue our support of the CSEP certification. Through Event Previews and Lab-based experiences, we want to bring the hands-on education of our industry to our chapter this year. As these opportunities are made available, I encourage you to take part and diversify your knowledge base. Why? Because in the new world of events, a diverse knowledge base and network of event professionals (read the ISES members across the globe) are what will make you a success. So here is to another successful year, for our chapter, and our members! I know I am looking forward to it. PS: I have to give a quick shout out to Hotel Minneapolis for hosting our annual board retreat and to Bill and everyone at Mobile Entertainment, LLC who took our board members on a Segway Magical Tour of the Minneapolis Riverfront. If you have never been on a Segway, or taken a group, you have to try it! By the end, our board members were even performing sychronized Segway moves!
